Product
Our shims are manufactured from high-impact polystyrene (PS) — a solid, non-compressible material that holds its dimensions under load. Unlike wood, it won’t rot, swell, shrink, or compress over time. You get the same fit on day one and year five.
Both terms are often used interchangeably. The technical difference: horseshoe shims have square outer edges, while U-shims feature rounded outer corners. Both are designed to slide around bolts and anchors. MSMG carries both — check our shop for current sizes and availability.
Each color represents a specific thickness so you can grab the right shim on a busy job site without stopping to measure. Blue = 1/16″, Red = 1/8″, Black = 1/4″. Color coding reduces errors and speeds up installations significantly.
Yes. Our polystyrene shims are engineered to withstand significant compressive forces — suitable for window and door installations, curtain wall systems, precast concrete leveling, and general structural shimming. If you have a specific load requirement, contact us and we’ll point you to the right product.
Yes. Our shims are manufactured in New Jersey and shipped direct to contractors and distributors across the country. No overseas supply chain — no surprises on lead time.
Application & Installation
Plastic shims are used across commercial and residential construction: window and door installation, curtain wall systems, precast concrete leveling, cabinet installation, HVAC equipment mounting, steel column base plates, and anywhere a precise gap or level surface is required. If you’re aligning, leveling, or spacing — shims are the answer.
Match the shim thickness to your gap requirement. Start with a single shim and test-fit before stacking. Our color-coded system makes selection fast: Blue (1/16″), Red (1/8″), Black (1/4″). When in doubt, call or email us — we’re happy to recommend the right product for your specific application.
Yes — and it’s one of the key advantages of precision-manufactured plastic shims. Because each shim is molded to an exact thickness, stacking is predictable. For example: one 1/8″ red shim + one 1/16″ blue shim = exactly 3/16″. No guesswork, no measuring tape required on site.
Wood shims warp, compress, rot, and change dimensions with moisture — especially in exterior or wet environments. Plastic shims hold their exact dimensions in any condition: wet, dry, hot, cold. They’re precision-molded for consistent sizing, don’t attract pests, and won’t corrode. For professional installations, plastic is the right call.
